A multilingual platform where young Europeans create stories, share ideas, and shape public conversation.
A platform built for young voices
Pulse Z was a digital democracy initiative that gave young Europeans a space to create, publish, and shape conversations on the issues that mattered most to them. Designed as a cross-border, digital-first platform, it connected journalism, multimedia storytelling, and civic engagement in a format that reflected how a new generation engaged with media.
Launched in 2024 with €2.7 million in EU funding, the project placed youth perspectives at the center of a wider European conversation. It helped create a multilingual media space where young people were not just represented, but actively involved in producing stories, framing debates, and contributing to public life.
Cross-border, collaborative, multilingual
Pulse Z brought together eight organisations from seven EU countries to build a shared platform for youth-driven media. This partnership created a collaborative environment where young creators could work across borders, exchange perspectives, and engage with common social and political issues through journalism and digital content.
A strong multilingual dimension was central to the project’s identity. By reducing language barriers and supporting collaboration across different national contexts, Pulse Z helped connect young media makers from across Europe and strengthened the sense of a shared public sphere shaped by diverse voices.
Learning by doing
At the heart of Pulse Z was a practical approach to learning. The project combined hands-on training, expert mentorship, and publishing opportunities to help participants build skills in journalism, fact-checking, multimedia production, ethical reporting, and digital storytelling.
Rather than focusing only on theory, Pulse Z encouraged participants to learn through experience. Interactive courses, assignments, and editorial practice gave young media makers the chance to test their ideas, strengthen their voice, and develop the confidence needed to work in today’s fast-moving media landscape.
EYP’s contribution
European Youth Press played a key role in the development of Pulse Z. As a project partner, EYP contributed through needs analysis, youth outreach, recruitment, onboarding, and the design of training programmes tailored to the realities and ambitions of young media makers across Europe.
This work helped ensure that the platform remained grounded in authentic youth perspectives. EYP’s contribution also reinforced the project’s commitment to quality journalism, inclusive storytelling, and meaningful participation, making Pulse Z both a publishing platform and a learning environment.
A lasting impact
Pulse Z contributed to a more inclusive and representative youth media landscape by giving young Europeans the tools, space, and support to engage in public debate through media. It showed how digital platforms could combine democratic participation, editorial standards, and innovation in ways that felt relevant and accessible to younger audiences.
Its legacy lives in the skills it helped develop, the collaborations it made possible, and the stronger network of young media makers it supported across Europe. Pulse Z offered a clear example of how youth-led journalism can enrich public conversation and create new pathways for participation across borders.
