While in school, classmates Anneli Virts and Mira Eveliina Ralli ran the school newspaper. After graduation, they faced challenges navigating the "adult world": university systems, job applications, taxes, making new friends, and more. They also wondered how to integrate into Estonian-speaking society after attending a Russian-language school. To help themselves and others overcome these challenges, the two friends decided to create a new media project. As the project grew, they brought together a small team of like-minded people who shared their vision and helped shape SHUM into what it is today. The project became a source of information about various aspects of life in Estonia and a platform for gaining experience in journalism, design, photography, podcasting, and other creative pursuits. SHUM also aims to help Russian-speaking youth integrate and better understand Estonian-speaking society, bridging the gap between the two communities.
Lazy Women is an inclusive feminist media platform and community created by young women from all over Europe to share and reflect on lived experiences and structural pressures related to womanhood and productivity culture.
Lazy Women started in 2020 as an act of rebellion: born out of lockdown frustrations, political backlash, and one too many men calling us lazy, we decided to turn that insult into a statement. By connecting the personal to the political, we shed light on how “laziness” can be an act of resistance; a refusal to perform, to please, or to conform
Today, Lazy Women is an independent media platform of more than 50 contributors worldwide, bringing fresh, fearless women’s perspectives to a feminist discourse still dominated by Western voices.
Our mission is to redefine feminist storytelling through intimate essays, powerful illustrations, and creative workshops that blur the line between reflection and action. Our work makes visible what’s often overlooked: the power of everyday stories—often dismissed as too “personal”—that are capable of exposing the common threads and deeply political nature behind women’s lived experiences across the globe. Every piece we publish is an act of reclamation: a way to reclaim our narratives, our voices, and our space, to reshape the way we see ourselves and the world.
