Today, young media makers from 13 European countries have founded the European Youth Press in Berlin. First co-operative negotiations with the European Commission and the European Journalists Federation have been started.
Over 45 young media makers from thirteen European countries have founded the European Youth Press in Berlin today. “With help of training courses and youth exchange projects our European organisation would like to build up a new network for young journalists in Europe. Furthermore, we want to work on standards for journalistic education and journalism in the future”, says 24 years old Katrin Hünermörder of Youth Press Germany as one of the two newly elected speakers.
The European Youth Press connects organisations with over 20000 young media makers from Sweden, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, Russia, Hungary, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro, Germany and Bulgaria. Besides Katrin Hünemörder, six more representatives have been elected to the board: Vanja Ch. Hamzic as the other speaker (Balcan Youth Press BYP), Andreas Renggli (Swiss Youth Press ASPJ), Katalin Borsodi (Hungarian Youth Press DUE), Anastasia Ivanova (Russian Youth Press), Susanne Hanger (Youth Press Austria) and Björn Richter (Youth Press Germany).
During the congress, the participants formulated their visions of international co-operation and started to plan concrete multicultural projects. On the third day of the meeting, all young media makers discussed their ideas with officials of the European Commission and the European Journalists Federation which lead to an agreement on a close future partnership.
The founding congress of the European Youth Press was supported by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (a German foundation) and by the Bundespresseamt (Federal German Press Office).
Since it is not possible to found organisations under European law at the moment, EYP is an association registered in Germany sharing its offices with Youth Press Germany.
