31 young journalists ready to participate in the third and last session of the ReLaTe project: 8 laboratories from 7 different European countries will host journalists during the month of November 2010
The aim of this project, RELATE -REsearch LAbs for TEaching Journalists-, is to strength the relation between scientists and journalists so as to improve the dissemination of scientific topics to the general audience.

This initiative gives also the chance to journalism students to enter in research laboratories
and spend one week side by side with scientists.
The welcome laboratories in this final session are the Chemistry and Genetics Lab from Bilkent
University (Turkey); the Laboratory for Materials Science from L’École Polytechnique Fédérale
de Laussane (Switzerland); the Education and Public Outreach Department from the European
Southern Observatory (Munich, Germany); the Institute of Photonic Sciences from Barcelona
(Spain); the Branchyterapy Lab, the CLIM -MOD Lab, the Cristalline Silicon PV and the Laser
Spectroscopy of Functional Materials Lab from the Italian National Agency for New
Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development in Rome; the Astronomy Haus
from the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy (Heidelberg, Germany), the Estación Biológica de
Doñana (Huelva and Seville, Spain); the Department of Electronics, Computer Science and
Systems, the Department of Agroenvironmental Science, and Technologies and the
Department of Marine Science from the University of Bologna (Italy), and L’Institut de
Recherche en Ssciences et Technologies pour l'Environnement (CEMAGREF).
During the training, students will have the opportunity to work as real journalists, interviewing
researchers, attending press conferences, writing articles and producing other communication
materials.
By producing valuable scientific articles and communication material ready to be distributed to
media outlets, they can ‘make sense of science’ while remaining true to principles of good
journalism.
The initiative, which started in November 2009, has already involved about 50 journalists from all over Europe and 20 laboratories.
