Founded in 1989 by a former dissident, Adam Michnik, Gazeta Wyborcza (also known as "Gazeta" which means simply "newspaper") is one of the main polish daily newspapers. It’s important competitor, Rzeczpospolita has significantly lower circulation, but is quoted by other media as often as Gazeta Wyborcza or even more frequently. And appeard new player on the market - Dziennik. There are also two tabloids – Fakt and Super Express. We shouldn’t also forget about some less influential newspapers, like leftist Trybuna and ultraconservative Nasz Dziennik.

When it comes to TV, there are four public channels; including one regional and one intended for Poles living abroad (TV Polonia). These channels are supported by government as well as by citizens who pay for compulsory subscription. Private television companies, TVN and Polsat are also quite well developed. They run several TV channels including news channel TVN24 which is sometimes even called "polish CNN".

Polish public radio runs six nationwide channels including Radio Polonia for Poles living abroad and Radio Parlament which broadcasts parliament sessions. According to the studies, two most widely known commercial radios are Radio Zet and RMF. They broadcast mainly contemporary pop music as well as news on current issues. Radio Zet is even one of the most frequently quoted sources in Poland.
