Of course the variety of media projects in Austria needs a lot of working people. Attending a specific education is certainly a good start, but unfortunately it is not that easy to get employed. The studies at the University of Vienna focussing on journalism are overrun although collecting some practical working experience at a newspaper is probably the best way. But still, there are many other professions concerning media. Especially these are well covered up by Austria’s universities and colleges. Here is a list with several interesting links:
BeSt (in German, there is only a special introduction in English)
The BeSt (Messe für Beruf, Studium und Weiterbildung = Exhibition for profession, studies and continuous education) is a big event where interested people get a great overview of all studies and educational programs existing in Austria. The ones covering media topics are included too. It takes place in Vienna, Graz and Salzburg each year.
SAE (in German)
This is a private institute offering courses in fields of audio, film and creative media.
Media computer science (in German)
The University of Vienna as well as the Technical University of Vienna offer this course with the degrees of Bachelor or Master. After two semesters with basics of computer science the lectures concentrate on the computational retrieval and programming of media data.
Visual media design and digital arts (in German)
This is a very artful course on the fields of digital media offered by the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.
Filmakademie (in German)
At the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna there exist several studies on the art of producing a movie. Future cutters, screenplay writers and directors of photography might get happy here.
Fachhochschule St.Pölten (in German)
A Fachhochschule is a private college with a specialized education offer. This institution in St. Pölten focuses the technical aspect of new media as well as management. The three main courses are called media management, computer simulation as well as telecommunications & new media.
Danube University (in German as well as in English)
This University in Krems concentrates on continuous education. Here, you will find quite a big variety of courses in terms of telecommunications, information and media.
Studies on journalism and communications (in German)
Of course you can also attend a classical education on journalism in Austria. But be aware that this degree program is quite infested with students.
