In view of the next edition of the European Youth Event (EYE2018), the European Parliament is launching an idea competition to find new ways to connect with young citizens. If you have ideas about this topic, take part in the competition!
From the rise of nationalist movements to a reshape of its borders, it’s now more than ever that the European Union needs to stay close to its citizens. To enrich the debate between policy makers, the European Parliament (EP) is looking for innovative proposals to connect more efficiently with young people.
For this objective, the EP can count on the support of the European Youth Press (EYP), partner of the EYE2018, who will help to find and evaluate the proposals.
You don’t need to be an experienced journalist or media maker to take part in this competition. All you need, is to be an EU citizen or resident, between 18 to 30 years old (as of June 2018) and answer the following question:
“How can the European Parliament connect better with young people and engage them more in the European democratic debate?”
In your answer, you can focus on different aspects of “connecting” to young people:
- How would you broaden the debate on EU affairs for young people?
- How would you reach out to young people who are not members of any youth organisation or don’t have access to already existing EU programmes and information yet?
- What could be done to strengthen the EP’s presence at regional and local level?
- How could young people’s needs and wishes be better understood and how could young people be – ultimately – more involved in European elections and EU decision making?
The three authors of the best proposals, selected by an EP/EYP jury, win a trip to the EYE2018 (travel and accommodation costs cover) and take part as experts in a workshop focusing on engaging with young people.
In addition, the winning proposals will be published on the EYE2018 website and in a special edition of the European Youth Press’ Orange Magazine.
Read carefully the conditions of the competition and apply from this link.
Applications are open from 12/12/2017 to 31/01/2018. All applicants will be notified of results by mid-February.
