Call for Two Reporters and One Editor for preparation of the Report on the Citizens’ Dialogue with young people

LET’S SHAPE THE FUTURE OF EUROPE TOGETHER!

 

THE EVENT

 

What is it all about?

The European Commission is organising a Citizens’ Dialogue with young people on the future of Europe on 8 May in Sibiu, Romania.  The event will bring together around 300 young Europeans from all over Europe. Participants will take part in several thematic workshops on the future of work, skills and qualifications, digital Europe, climate change, fair and inclusive societies as well as democratic participation and better involvement of youth in policy-making. At the end of the day, all participants will converge to discuss their ideas during a Citizens’ Dialogue with the political leaders of the European Commission.

 

The day after, Sibiu will host a Summit of Heads of State and Government of the EU countries.

 

What you need to know

The event will take place on 8 May from 9.30 until 18.30, in the Centre Ion Besoiu in Sibiu. Participants are expected to arrive in Sibiu on 7 May and leave on 9 May. Participants will be hosted in Alba Iulia (53 km from Sibiu).

 

Who we are searching for

The EYP is searching for a team of one editor and two reporters who will prepare a comprehensive summary of the event in a form of a 40 pages report A5 format (text and images). The report will cover the results from the workshop discussions, exhibition, the award ceremony and conclusions of the young Citizens’ Dialogue. The report is to be written in English. The deadline for the final version of the report is 4 weeks after the event.

 

The target audience of the report: participants, political representatives at European, national and regional levels, journalists and young people in general.

 

WHO CAN APPLY

The call is open to experienced journalists with a legal residence and work permit in the EU. Journalists need to have an excellent command in English, fluency in French and German is a big plus. There is no age limit to all positions, but as a youth organisation we will give priority to young professionals.

 

Attention: we will be selecting team members according to the criteria of each position. You need to have experience in the area which corresponds to the position. Please, mention why you fit each criteria in your motivation letter.

 

All positions are paid under the freelance contract. Salary is calculated according to the level of experience and responsibilities.  

 

1.EDITOR

 

Criteria:

  • At least 5 years of experience working for printed media
  • Native/equal to the native level of English (editor’s responsibility will be to proofread the entire report)
  • At least 2 years of experience in the design of the printed materials (editor will assist the design team preparing the final version of the report ready to print)
  • Experience in managing teams of reporters during the big scale events
  • Fluency in French and German is a big plus

 

The approximate list of responsibilities:

coordination of preparation, production and post-production phases, coordination of the team at the place, finalisation of the product and proofreading, making sure the final product corresponds to step outline and what was agreed, the design of the final product, etc.

 

2.REPORTER – INTERVIEWER

Criteria:

  • At least 5 years of experience working for printed media
  • Very good level of English (candidates with experience working for English speaking media will be given priority)
  • Experience in doing interviews during the big scale events (please, provide examples of materials based on the interviews you made)
  • Fluency in French and German is a big plus

 

The approximate list of responsibilities:

developing the overall structure of the report, research and interview arrangements, work at the event (interviews, etc.), writing of the report, all unforeseen tasks connected to the work on the report, etc.

 

3.REPORTER – PHOTOGRAPHER

 

Criteria:

  • At least 5 years of experience working for printed media
  • At least 3 years of experience working with photography for the media outlet
  • Very good level of English (candidates with experience working for English speaking media will be given a priority)
  • Experience in doing interviews during the big scale events (please, provide examples of materials based on the interviews you complete)
  • Fluency in French and German is a big plus

 

The approximate list of responsibilities: developing the overall structure of the report, research and interview arrangements, work at the event (interviews, photographies, etc.), writing of the report, taking and editing photographs, all unforeseen tasks connected to the work on the report, etc.

 

FINANCIAL CONDITIONS

Accommodation, flights, food during the event day as well as local transport from the hotel to the venue will be arranged and booked by the organising side.

 

You will need to inform us about the airport of your departure and arrival (must be the same airport) as soon as you are selected. The departure and arrival can be from a country outside of the EU, but you will need to provide an explanation of why are you traveling from there.

 

To cover your costs of travel to and from the airport, as well as meals during the travel days, the organising team will pay 2 daily allowances per person (52€ /day) together with the salary.

 

The salary and two per diems will be paid no later than 2 months after the report submission.
